This Online Residential Electricity Course is designed to give you clear, comprehensive, and practical training in residential electrical installations — from foundational concepts to step-by-step execution of typical household circuits and devices.
Throughout more than 35 lessons, you’ll learn about:
- The generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.
- The different types of residential service entrances, both overhead and underground, at low and high voltage.
- The grounding system, energy meters, main panels, and distribution panels.
- How to identify and connect residential branch circuits.
- Various methods of electrical conduit installation, including EMT metal pipes, PVC plastic pipes, flexible pipes, and NM (Romex) cables commonly used in the U.S.
- Techniques for stripping wires, making splices, and insulating connections, as well as mounting devices.
With guided practical exercises, you’ll see how to install:
- Switches, outlets, and lights in different configurations (single-pole, 3-way, 4-way, with photocells).
- Doorbells from one or two locations.
- 120 VAC outlets (NEMA 5-15R) and 240 VAC outlets in their various formats (NEMA 6-15, 14-30, 14-50) used for appliances, dryers, stoves, and EV chargers.
- GFCI outlets with parallel or downstream common receptacles.
